Is France preparation for the Rugby World Cup a success ?

Since last July 2, the French rugby team has been preparing for the biggest event in its history: the Rugby World Cup hosted on home soil. For such an event, the preparation had to match the high ambitions of the French team.

After a grueling month in Monaco and Capbreton in July focusing on physical and cardiovascular training, Les Bleus began their rugby resumption in August with two matches against Scotland, one against Fiji, and finally one against Australia.

Financially, the balance is positive with three wins out of four matches. Considering the first loss occurred with an experimental team in Edinburgh, and that it led to the emergence of Louis Bielle-Biarrey, who was ultimately called up to the 33-man squad, the details are also satisfactory.

Dark Spot: Romain Ntamack

It’s hard to overlook the injury to Toulouse’s number 10, Romain Ntamack. Pivotal for both his club and the French team for several seasons, his injury against Scotland and subsequent withdrawal from the World Cup have made waves beyond France.

Known for spectacular runs like the one against the All Blacks in November 2021, Ntamack will undoubtedly be missed by the French. Even if Matthieu Jalibert will fill in and is expected to have a great World Cup.

Green Light: Rising Strength

The labored victory against Scotland raised concerns that Les Bleus might have overworked this summer and would not go the distance. However, wins against Fiji and the Wallabies ultimately proved otherwise.

More agile and energetic, the French showed more ease in their last two preparation matches. They never seemed physically strained, indicating that their level will likely continue to rise before September 8, and possibly even beyond.

Controlled Gameplay

The French team has shown mastery over their gameplay against their opponents this summer. This is a real positive point to highlight. Moreover, there’s a feeling that this team can still raise the bar and produce even more during the World Cup.

Besides making the right decisions, Antoine Dupont’s teammates successfully executed their gameplay fluidly.

Confidence and Consistency

France is clearly confident ahead of the 10th Rugby World Cup in history. Serious and disciplined, this team is full of players who, besides being talented, are keen on unity and cohesion. The group projects a calm and compact image, seemingly unshakeable.

As a result, the preparation has gone smoothly, without any major controversies, clashes, or the like. Of course, as long as the team is winning, everything is fine. But as of now, everything is clear for the French team, which, it’s fair to say, has had a successful summer preparation.
